Meet Mandy Lai!
Mandy is an HR professional with 7 years of experience and 10 years of volunteering experience, mainly focusing on youth development. Apart from that, she works with different NGOs which also focus on student internships and mentorships for university students.
Mandy is also the president of Hong Kong Alumni Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, an organization with over 5,000 members. This organization can be described as the elites of the business sector, as all the members are from different universities with GPA being the top 10%.
To Give and To Take
Although Mandy has regular volunteering engagement, Time Auction encourages more of that, as she can in exchange for meeting different leaders from the society, from celebrities to business professionals. The biggest gift that she can gain from Time Auction events is to give and to take.
Connecting The Dots — What Mandy Learned
“Everyone has experienced things that we may not know the value; it’s by connecting the dots we will discover the values in the experience.”
Being a leader is difficult, you need to motivate as well as setting a good example to others. Mandy thinks that the most difficult part is to align goals among teams while she was doing a mentorship program for university students. Not everything can be done alone, because teamwork masks the dream work!
Throughout Mandy’s 10 years of volunteering experience, what she learnt the most is to not be selfish and have empathy. The more she gives, the more she can see from others: the positivity. Everyone has to face illness and death, so the purpose is not only to achieve and make money, which helps her reflect on how she can contribute to the world.
Volunteering has always given Mandy a new insight to everything that she is doing now. She used to be impatient and wanted to achieve many things quickly. However, everyone has their pace they work at. Now, she will consider more before she makes a decision and enjoys the journey.
Thank you so much to Mandy for contributing 180 volunteer hours and participating in 7 Time Auction events!
