1 Team, 1 Dream — Cooking Demo with Vicky Cheng, Executive Chef / Partner at Michelin-starred VEA Restaurant & Lounge
Sometimes the most meaningful and inspiring conversations happen over casual meals. The Time Auction Blog is a snippet of our meetings with people who have found passion in their life and career, where we get a glimpse into their mentality behind their ventures.
Indeed, a person who truly flies high can see further than most of us and certainly beyond himself. Vicky Cheng, Executive Chef / Partner at VEA Restaurant & Lounge, enlightens our conversation with his vibes of enthusiasm, readiness to engage and an open mind. He is a warrior of life — fighting for his dream to become a chef, achieving work-life balance and now, embarking on a mission to incorporate his culinary techniques in infusing traditional Chinese ingredients with modern French styles at VEA Restaurant & Lounge.
What’s the life motto that you live by?
“Always stay true to yourself.
There are always better opportunities to choose from but do choose the one you think is worthy and good enough for you.”
Is there a habit that has significantly improved your life?
“Asking my wife for opinions. It is true to say that
‘Behind every great man there’s a great woman’.
Although she is never in front of cameras for interviews, she always goes behind the scene and helps a lot no matter what kind of decisions and obstacles I come across.”
If you have to give a lesson that is unrelated to your career, what will it be?
“Stay focus and learn to differentiate hobbies from careers.
Do your research and narrow down your paths into one way. The key to success is to stay focus constantly on the same thing. Be it mentors or families, seek support from the right person.”
Is there one act or action you want everyone to take away from meeting you today?
“Whatever you want to pursue, you do it thoroughly. It’s nice to have different interests but keep your hobby a hobby and focus on one thing that you are very passionate.”
